Standardbreds are perhaps the most underrated breed out there. People have the negative notion that all they can do is pace really fast with their heads up in the air while pulling a cart. This simply isn't true! Standardbreds go on to do it all! Their early days in the racing world teach them all manners and life skills. Standardbreds are known for their steady nature, quiet disposition, and willing temperament. There isn't a whole lot these horses haven't seen. They know how to deal with crowds, and therefore loud noises. They will stand on cross ties all day. They're used to grooming, bathing, farrier care, shipping, and not one, but two bits! These horses come off the track already knowing how to start, stop, and steer. Because they are such an intelligent breed, the transition into life as riding horses is usually an easy one. Standardbreds go on to do everything from dressage and jumping to endurance, cross country and everything that any other breed can do. And, as an added bonus, they also drive! Standardbreds literally do it all.
Don't believe me?
