Urgent - Horses in Dire Need

4/10/2020

Standardbred racehorses in the care of a 32-year-old charity, the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF), are at great risk. All fundraisers are canceled due to Covid19; SRF says it cannot feed them all and is

asking for help to avoid drastic measures.

The Situation for the Racehorses at SRF

4/6/2020

Nearly 32 years of helping thousands of Standardbreds, and shining under numerous awards from the Racing Commissioners International, the American Associations of Equine Practitioners, the Harness Tracks of America and many others, the horses of the Standardbred

Retirement Foundation, (SRF) are facing serious trouble during

this Covid virus pandemic.

Urgent - Safety of SRF Horses Affected by Pandemic

3/27/2020

Covid19 is causing the Standardbred Retirement Foundation,(SRF) to

cancel, not postpone, three of its very impactful fundraisers. It is also being slammed by the need for Americans to quarantine, keeping adopters away during the busiest time of the year for finding homes. More than 400 trotters and pacers are under the SRF's expense and care. What this means is that there will be no funds to feed every

one of its horses. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.

Their Freedom Ride to SRF

2/24/2020

The last of the trotters and pacers the Standardbred Retirement

Foundation, (SRF ) has been trying to keep from shipping for

slaughter has left the pen on their freedom ride. Fifteen of the

remaining Standardbreds were loaded at about 5:30 pm on

Saturday at the kill pen in Shippensburg, Pa and arrived at the

boarding facility the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF)

uses.

The Number is Fourteen

2/20/2020

According to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF), which has been diligently working to save nearly thirty trotters and pacers from slaughter, a few wonderful new homes have been offered and three very kind sponsors have changed the lives of two others. Sadly, Princess Lola, and Thro Time, both who had homes, now have nothing,

their offers have fallen through.

Update on Slaughter-bound

Standardbreds

2/14/2020

On the last day before the truck leaves for the Canadian slaughterhouse, a little more than half of the trotters and pacers are safe, 16 are still in desperate need of homes.

SRF Horses Star in Little Women

2/12/2020

In the midst of the efforts to help horses so desperately in need as they stand in a kill pen, tagged to ship for slaughter, there is a smile to be had. The blockbuster movie, Little Women, stars all Standardbreds, and most were rescued from the kill pen, landing safely into the hands of the SRF.

A Twist and Update on 29 Horses at Risk

2/10/2020

Standardbreds remain at risk to ship for slaughter, thankfully, they have been given a 4-day reprieve. A deposit from the funds raised as of this morning was used to negotiate more time for Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) to help them. Leaving them in a kill pen longer is very concerning, as they are crammed in and fighting for something to eat. It's fairly clear in the photo that this one horse is not only in need of such, but he is also frightened. Their deadline is now Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, ironically it is Valentine’s Day.

100 + Horses Set For Slaughter

2/6/2020

It’s a matter of a few days before more than 100 horses, now in Shippensburg, Pa., meet their horrific end at a Canadian slaughterhouse. Some appear to be in foal; others are tossed away

broodmares; a few are in great shape; others in dire need of a meal and veterinary attention; a few are elderly and have served racing then

worked hard in rural areas until they were worn out and have given up.
