Mare in Foal Seeks a Home, SRF Ask for Help
11/27/17
Surprise, surprise - one lucky mare has made it to the safety of the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF). Tee's Mean Machine showed up from the kill pen looking like she might be pregnant, and SRF has confirmed that she is in fact in foal. Her due date, at best guess is in February, and the father is a mystery. SRF is not set up for what she will need or for handling a foal and seeks an experienced home or foster home for this healthy mare. She is just 12 years old. To offer help, please contact Tammy Cailliau at 732-446-4422 or via email at SRFhorsesandkids@gmail.com.
SRF Friends Got it Done
11/13/17
Where would 38‐39, and now 40 Standardbreds be without the community of love for these horses; every one has been saved.
Last Effort Needed to Help Remaining Eight
11/13/17
Eight horses are still without homes and SRF is desperately pleading for funds or they will be left behind. To carry them through until spring each will cost for shipping, quarantine, veterinary care, farrier, worming, rehabilitation, and training about $3,000 each. It's the last effort with a deadline now moved to 6pm.
Update 4:00pm - Standardbreds at Risk
11/12/17
Twenty‐four horses are still without homes, but an extension was negotiated until 4pm, Monday, Nov. 13, 2017.
The hope is that at least half of those needing homes will have luck by late
morning. "Deciding on who stays and who ships is just not something anyone
wants to do, " said Tammy Cailliou, SRF's Administrator. "We continue to ask
for tax‐deductible donations, hope that there are less horses left without
homes by 4pm tomorrow, and that enough is raised to extend ourselves to
help them. Paying the "bail" is nothing compared to shipping, quarantine,
veterinary care, farrier, worming, rehabilitation, and training, and carrying
them into spring 2018. Please be as generous as you can so none are left out.
Update on Standardbreds at Risk
11/12/17
The four in great need are safe, so are the NY bred thanks to the NY Breeders Association that steps up in every time of need for their horses.
Homes and donations are very much still needed, desperately needed, 30 are
still without a patch of land to live on. While help is coming in, homes are in
very short supply. If this is still the case at the deadline, either we face the
dreadful option of losing them to slaughter or hope that the number of
homeless is small enough and the donations strong enough.
Do You Recognize Any of These Horses?
11/10/17

They on the brink of a frightful trip to a heinos act and they need the help of everyone. Several are in good shape, some very poor, a few injured, and blind.

SRF's Statement on Killean Cut Kid
9/7/17
During the week of August 26th, 2017, the twelve-year son of Mach Three, Killean Cut Kid was found in a Louisiana pen where horses are held before shipping for slaughter to Canada or Mexico. The volunteers of Save Our Standardbreds From Slaughter (SOSS), present on Face Book, stepped in to offer help. “Kid”, with earnings of $315,239 for more than fifteen owners in his racing career. Kid had a sesamoid fracture and was racing in $3,500 claiming races prior. Somehow, he was shipped from Ohio and was standing more than 1,000 miles away in Bastrop, Louisiana with severe injuries to all four legs, but social media posts read “Kid was put down”. The relation of this post to Killean Cut Kid is indisputable.
